There are a variety of travel options to choose from in Namibia: a self-drive tour, a private guided tour in a small group or a fly-in safari to the countries more remote regions- also a great combination with either your self drive or guided tour. Namibia's good road infrastructure and excellent signage lends itself well to a self drive tour and there is very little traffic in this sparsely populated country. However, keep in mind that driving is on the left side and also that Namibia is a large country and travelling distances are great. WHEN TO GO
Namibia is an all year round destination.The summer months are from October-April and temperatures generally range from 20-34 degrees celsius during the day with temperatures above 40 often recorded in the extreme north and south of the country. The coast influenced by the cold Benguela current, boasts a relatively stable temperature range from 15-25 degrees celsius with heavy fog at night. Winter is from May-September with temperatures generally ranging from 18-25 degrees celsius during the day and below freezing temperatures and ground frost common at night. The peak travelling season in Namibia is from July- October. We advise planning your trip well in advance over these months as accommodation availability is at a premium. Special interest groups should take note of the following travel tips: Best birding safaris are during the summer months from October-March because of the greater variety of species to be found.
